Jamila has been an active participant in the fitness world since she was young. In middle school she fell in love with the sport of volleyball and continues to play competitively both locally and across the country. After becoming a mother and adopting a few bad habits during her pregnancy, she realized how important health and fitness really are.

After a lot of hard lessons and lifestyle changes, she lost 80 pounds and has maintained it! During her weight loss journey a lot of friends came in contact with her to learn how she was able to drop such a significant amount of weight. After helping a few of her friends with their own goals she ended up getting certified as a personal trainer and continues to help others on their journey to a better life.

Education & Qualifications

Jamila graduated from San Jose State University with a Bachelor's in Nutrition. While she originally started down the path to becoming a registered dietitian, she quickly realized that the greatest impact she could have was from the holistic approach that personal training can provide.

As she turned her attention to personal training, she completed a 500 hour internship program. Through this program, Jamila learned the ins and outs of what it means to be a personal trainer. This included focus on programming, coaching for individuals as well as groups, taking assessments, and learning how to be a coach...not just a trainer.

Certifications Include:

  • National Academy of Sports Medicine: Certified Personal Trainer
    • Broad knowledge of the human body, muscle function, programming strategy, and exercise science.
  • Functional Movement Screen: Level 1 Certified
    • Developed by two physical therapists, the functional movement screen is a way of assessing and grading movement to find the weak link for someone, therefore establishing the greatest risk for injury.
  • Z-Health: Essentials of Elite Performance
    • Focused work on three key areas: 1) Rehabilitating the body through re-education of correct movement patterns and joint control. 2) How to train and integrate visual, balance, and proprioceptive systems to produce a properly functioning body. 3) Sport speed integration and athletic skills including jumping, sprinting, change of direction, and more.
