Top 5 Exercises to Stay on Track While Traveling

One of the biggest things to get in the way of our health and fitness goals is travel.

Now, don’t get me wrong, travel is great! It’s important for our health, be it physical, mental, or emotional.

Vacations are necessary for the rest, connection, and experiences they provide. However, it’s also the time that we tend to slip off our fitness and dietary goals.

That’s why we’ve put together a 15 minute travel workout so that you can enjoy your trip without falling off your fitness goals!

Check below for a step-by-step video of a great 15-minute workout that you can do from the comfort of your hotel room and keep reading for some tips to stay on top of your dietary goals while you’re traveling.

Mindful Nutrition Tips to Keep You on Track for Travel:

- Drink lots of water! Try to have a glass when you wake up, before bed, and at every meal to help maintain hydration (and to make sure your body isn't telling you it's hungry when it's really just thirsty).

- Try to get enough sleep: This can be hard on vacation, but getting enough sleep will help keep your stress levels down and support anti-inflammatory responses and hormone production.

- Decide on when your free meals ("cheat" meals) are going to be: Is it a dessert you are going to split (or not!)? A day or two that you want to eat without worrying about it? Decide ahead of time so you don't accidentally have a spiral of too many days that don't support your goals.

Remember that just because you are traveling doesn’t mean that every meal should be the most decadent option. You’ll enjoy the treats more if you choose them, and you’ll feel less guilt later on!

- Split meals or take leftovers (if possible): If there is an option you just can’t resist, or you are stuck eating out the whole time on vacation, consider splitting your meals with your family or friends to help cope with portion sizes. If you can, take leftovers, that way you can enjoy the meal later without overdoing it in the moment!

- Check menus beforehand (if possible): This will help you pick something that sounds good and still supports your goals before the smells of the restaurant, the sight of the food, and the demands of your cravings can take over!

- Eat veggies first! That way, you will fill up on the most nutrient-rich items and will eat less of the foods that don't provide as much nutrition.

- Watch your stress! Sometimes we aren’t traveling for fun. Make sure to take time to relax, meditate, do yoga, read, walk, take a bath, etc. - whatever you like best to relax! Stress will make you retain fat (for real!), so if we let our stress go unchecked or unmanaged for too long, we will find it almost impossible to lose weight even if we are doing everything "right" with our nutrition and fitness.

- Most importantly, be kind to yourself! You are on the right track, and even if the trip isn't as healthy as you'd like it to be, it doesn't mean you are failing! There is no " good " or "bad" food, and you are off to a great start!
